Shear Genius Party at The Tribeca Grand
Shear Genius Party at The Tribeca Grand
THE BRAVO SHEAR GENIUS FINALE PARTY AT THE TRIBECA GRAND
A friend of mine invited me to the finale party for “Shear Genius,” the BRAVO show at the Tribeca Grand last night.
On our way over, we stopped by the Adam store on Hudson, then into Manhattan Motors before arriving at the event. The weather has been especially pleasant this week with a hint of fall in the air, this is why we walked about twenty blocks and my feet were starting to hurt.
Down in the screening room of the Tribeca Grand, we noticed all of the contestants from the show and Malan from Project Runway was there too. He also knows my friend (the one that invited me) and we shared some laughs and enjoyed the open bar. We were beginning to feel a bit woozy and luckily crab-cakes, macaroni and cheese as well as other treats were being served. Something caught my eye as were sitting in front of the screening room entrance. It was Jaclyn Smith! I don’t usually get too star-struck, (growing up in LA and all) however, I must admit I loved Charlie Angels (and still do when the reruns are on) and always secretly wanted to be Jill Monroe (Farrah Fawcett’s character), but loved the calm and coolness of Kelly Garret! She was the ultimate girl-next door turned private detective!
Another friend of mine (a stylist) turned to me and whispered, “She looks like she has only aged about ten years at the most…SHE LOOKS GREAT!” I had to agree.
The Shear Genius contestants also competed in a cutting challenge and are donating the hair to the “Locks of Love” charity.
In the theater, I was treated to the experience of seeing the Shear Genius show for the first time. The three finalists: Dee Adames, Charlie Price and Nicole Obert had four hair models ranging in ages from: 21 up to 65. There was a group of blonde, brunettes and redheads. The contestants had to cut, color and style the hair of these women giving them the most flattering look for that particular age. You’ll have to watch Shear Genius on Bravo to find out who won! Okay, it was Dee Adames and the looks she created on the redheads made her the winner of the $100,000! It was a wonderful, smart and sheer genius evening overall and everyone left with a bag filled with Nexxus Hair Products...
FASHION WEEK RSVP'S
FASHION WEEK RSVP'S
I must have sent out about 500 rsvps over the weekend and my eyes began to blur over how many shows are going on in less than two weeks!
Perhaps I should share some of my responses from the PR firms. One thing is for sure, this entire business is very entertaining. There are all sorts of characters on the other side of the computer making facial gestures I long to see in person. I'm certain the PNN readers would love to see these emails I've got back with both confirmations and denials.
I'm working on improving my writing skills as well as taking on another creative endeavor, I will share at the opportune time. Until then, please enjoy the Fashion Week photo album as I am just learning how to upload these after two seasons of shows; please forgive the tardiness on my behalf.
I will keep you all posted!
Much love,

Last night I started to think I was going to Don Hills with the Japan Fashion Week Launch party on Greenwich and Spring--just next door!
All of New York's Favorites were in attendance celebrating the '08-'09 Autumn Winter Launches by favorites:

It was a mob-scene, but the models stood on pedestaled platforms displaying sheer elegance as the crowd bobbed and weaved throughout the space.
Two weeks ago, I celebrated "National Underwear Day" with the "Fresh Pair" and "French Lingerie" parties. Both were packed with all sorts of popular peeps including: Lydia Hearst and Richie Rich. Guests were treated to a shopping bag filled with mens boxers and briefs along with the game OPERATION--yes, the one with the pudgy illustrated man with a bsright orange nose and plastic body parts. Just around the corner, the ROSY lingerie party was beginning to wind down.
On Thursday, we stopped by the W Hotel for the Tennis Party with delectable tastings from all over NYC. It seems like everyone is out and about taking in the last bits of summer and gearing up for Fashion Week!
Fashion Week! Gotta love it!!
Thunder From Down Under At Trump Marina in Atlantic City, NJ
Thunder From Down Under At Trump Marina in Atlantic City, NJ
The Hamptons used to be the best summer getaway, but this year, for me, Atlantic City has been a blast!!
One of my traveling companions suggested we host a bachelorette party at "Thunder Down Under" at Trump Marina and we did, it was tame..as calm as can be expected with five girls on the loose in this wild town...
We must have been crazy to have gone to a buffet dinner before seeing gorgeous guys men from Australia with six-pack abs perform on stage right in front of us! Who does that? We do apparently!
Before the show, each of chose a favorite "BLOKE" from the ensemble. I liked David, the gritty, long-haired rocker with the piercing blue eyes and Dentist-approved, sparkling smile.
The women went completely crazy during each number. We especially enjoyed the show when our chosen guy stopped by our table. David (Dave) gave me a nice kiss and strong hug despite feeling super-duper full from our pms-induced frenzy beforehand.
Thunder From Down Under is the perfect escape show from everyday life. You too can leave your ordinary world and be swept off your feet by one of these hunks..Until August 31st, that is—before they take off (no pun intended on their world tour across the globe).

Atlantic City Aquarium
Atlantic City Aquarium
Atlantic City has been my choice this year as a great summer desination. This time, five of us girls decided to visit drive together there. We were staying at the Sheraton (usually a full-service hotel complete with all sorts of eye-catching Miss America memorabilia-almost museum like, behind the glass cases just off the lobby). Early Saturday morning, a storm hit the area and the lightning hit the building taking out elevator service as well as turning the water in our hotel room black. This situation did not dampen our spirits. We checked out of the hotel and drove over to the Aquarium the night after a big storm. The sun began to break through the clouds and we knew it was going to be a great day!
When we arrived at the aquarium, it reminded us of a quaint marina village complete with dolphin-watching day tours.
Inside the aquarium an underwater show was taking place. We walked around touching the sting-rays in the tanks and later received a very informative tour guide explaining the life span and diet of each creature. Upstairs, a memorial service was even taking place! We thorougly enjoyed this experience and the aquarium was a nice change of pace for all of us.
More information courtesy of the Atlantic City Visitors Bureau:
The Atlantic City Aquarium houses more than 100 species of fish and other marine creatures. A combination aquarium and marine science education center; with 11 tanks offer visitors a close-up look at Giant Moray Eels, seahorses, jellyfish, an octopus, a coral reef and much more. At the Ocean Life Center's 750-gallon Touch Tank, visitors may actually handle sea urchins, shrimp, whelk, mussels, hermit crabs and other sea creatures. Elsewhere, a 23,000-gallon tank showcases Fish of the New Jersey Coast, among them sea bass, sand tiger sharks, northern stingray and kingfish. Although most of its aquariums are saltwater tanks, the Atlantic City Aquarium devotes displays to freshwater and estuarine marine life as well. The Atlantic City Aquarium also features such interactive exhibits as The Art of Sailing, which pairs a model sailboat with a wind tunnel to illustrate the challenges of sailing. The Atlantic City Aquarium is available for birthday parties, meetings and other special events. It is located at Historic Gardner's Basin, home to fishing boats, restaurants and antique shops.

Betsey Johnson Store Party!
Betsey Johnson Store Party!
Who knew? I heard from a friend while at another party there was a party on Wooster Street, just a couple of blocks away. With a little perserverence we were able to go to the Betsey Johnson party..It was kewl! Meeting Betsey in person was quite a thrill too. She was warm and friendly, smiling the entire time. When we were leaving, each of us received a hot pink shopping bag with three travel sized bottles of the Betsey Johnson perfume and I really love it! The fresh, floral scent is very girly. I love NYC and Bestey!
IKEA CATALOG PARTY 2009
IKEA CATALOG PARTY 2009
IKEA IS ONE OF AMERICA'S FAVORITE EUROPEAN COMPANIES. FROM THE SWEDISH MEATBALLS TO THE 99 CENT BREAKFAST, CROWDS WORK THEMSELVES INTO A FRENZY TO SEE WHAT'S NEW IN HOME DECOR AFTER FILLING UP AND GEARING UP TO SHOP.
AS I FLIPPED THROUGH THE NEW 2009 CATALOG, I THOUGHT TO MYSELF, "THIS IS NICE, OH AND THIS TOO, MAYBE EVEN.." TRUTH BE TOLD, A FELLOW JOURNALIST AND I CHECKED OUT THE COOL BEDS. WE LEARNED ABOUT THE MEMORY FOAM AND WERE GIVEN A TOUR THROUGH THE MODEL KITCHEN AFTERWARDS.
GUESTS WERE GIVEN PILLOWS AS GIFTS. THE IKEA EMPLOYEES ASKED THIS QUESTION: ARE YOU A SIDE-SLEEPER, BACK SLEEPER OR STOMACH SLEEPER? PERSONALLY, I TOSS AND TURN, THEREFORE, I WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BACK SLEEPER AND GIVEN A PRESCRIPTION FOR THE GOSA KARNA PILLOW COMPLETE WITH MY CHOICE OF A DOWN PILLOW CASE OR SYNTHETIC.
THE PARTY ALSO OFFERED PEDI-CAB RIDES TO THE FERRY. SINCE WE WERE ALMOST THE LAST TO LEAVE, WE WALKED TO THE FERRY AND ENJOYED THE RIDE BACK TO WALL STREET TAKING IN THE SCENERY AND COOL WATERFALLS ALONG THE WAY. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME AND PLACED THE DOWN PILLOW CASE COVER OVER MY NEW PILLOW, MY CAT LOUNGED ON IT; CLAIMING IT, ALSO APPARENTLY, A BACK SLEEPER TOO!
STAY TUNED FOR THE NEW IKEA 2009 CATALOG...GOOD STUFF KIDS!
Nicholas K and Conference of Birds Menswear Spring 2009
Nicholas K and Conference of Birds Menswear Spring 2009
Everyone gets excited about Fashion Week--everyone!
Most of the shows take place at Bryant Park and throughout the year many desingers host trunk shows and also have resort-wear lines as well, mostly at a design studio or showroom around town.
The Men's Wear Spring 2009 shows were held at Pier 92.
I was only able to see two last week: Nicholas K. and Conference of Birds.
In the front row I recognized a fellow colleague from my days as a temp in the accessories department at Vogue. I made friends with another red-head with freckles named Stephen Watson, now at Men's Vogue working as a the Fashion Director.
I didn't bring my camera, unfortunately, but did manage to find an image courtesy of Gen Art where Conference of Birds got their first taste of fame..
Museum of Sex: Sex Lives Of Animals Press Party
Museum of Sex: Sex Lives Of Animals Press Party
The first time I visited The Museum Of Sex it was with my mom and two of her friends. We went with open-minds and learned many unknown facts worthy of a good conversation down the road.
I never knew condoms were invented by a person working at a sausage factory before this and the first x-rated film was during the silent movie era.
Tonight, a large group of fellow journalists and media folks decided to educate themselves on "The Sex Lives of Animals" exhibit.
We did not have enough time to learn about each and every piece on display, but did get a bit of knowlege on the so-called homosexual penguins at the zoo and other not-so-known tidbits in the animal kingdom.
Heartland Brewery sponsored the food and drinks and guests also were entertained with videos upstairs of couples discussing and really showing "how-to's" to the museum goers in a real how-to, dare I say "graphic" fashion.
The raciest and banned commercials across the globe were also part of the show upstairs.
In one section, there was a build-your-own dream girl display. Interested parties are able to choose: hair color, style, eye color, makeup, nail polish and other features I probably should not mention online. Again, this is all very educational, but maybe not for everyone.
For more information visit: http://www.museumofsex.com
There is a $3.00 savings coupon online too!
The Museum of Sex is located at 233 Fifth Avenue and 27th Street in NYC. Admission is $14.50 and $13.50 for seniors and students.
The Body Shop Holiday Launch
The Body Shop Holiday Launch
This week's events and parties have been pretty okay. The Holiday Body Shop Launch was the most pleasant experience of all.
Members of the Media were introduced to the new lines due out by Thanksgiving. My personal favorites: Warm Amber and Spiced Vanilla. Editors also left with an eco-friendly goodie bag filled with these products. I've tried the Amber Body Scrub (a mulch-like consistency) and it is wonderful! The Vanilla lighter body scrub is also a winner! When I wash my hands with the liquid soap, my entire apartment has the fragrance of a freshly baked dessert--it is incredible!
In addition to the magnificent scents, all of the Body Shop Products promote free-trade and improve the lives of others across the globe. Remember to check out these amazing products in November at your local Body Shop and you will not only look good and feel good, you can make a difference in another human beings life..
Baccarat: Insomnight
Baccarat: Insomnight
New York Nightlife definitely has something for everyone. Some prefer spending time below Fourteen Street while others near venture past Eighty-Sixth Street on The East Side.
Personally, I love all the boroughs and every area of Manhattan. Once in a while one of the boutiques on Madison Avenue hosts an event I make sure to mark my calendar for.
The Baccarat Insomnight winter press launch was quite an elegant gathering. It was a refreshing break from the velvet rope crowd and mobs of people.
Baccarat hosted a splendid affair complete with refreshing beverages for guests while displaying their upcoming holiday jewelry for all to gaze at.
Deep rich blue and purple stones with perfect crystals sparkled from underneath the glass countertops.
Paper weights with birds in every color also caught my eye.
For those in love with Snoopy, an entire collection was devoted to this animated icon.

Banana Republic, Gap and Old Navy Holiday Preview Launch
Banana Republic, Gap and Old Navy Holiday Preview Launch
Two great parties took place last week. First, was the Banana Republic, Gap and Old Navy Press Launch. Editors and The Media were able to get a glimpse into the Holiday Fashion Season at this event. It was truly ironic wearing open-toed shoes and a summer dress while taking in the striped sweaters, scarves and ski hats. My favorite collection of the three was by Banana Republic. Cute purple dresses and simple, yet elegant and sparkling necklaces and bracelets were shown. I especially like the goodie bag contents including my pajama bottoms from Old Navy, they are very comfortable and the paisley print is very fun too.
The Edge New York Party hosted by Daily Candy was a huge success too. The first twenty guests to arrive were handed a $20.00 gift certificate to use in the store. I found some great green earrings and another vendor gave away a free pair too.
In this goodie bag I found: Fat-free cinnamon rolls, healthy diet aids, a nice moisturizer from DDF and a pretty pink lip gloss from one of the Sephora favorites.
Sometimes it is great being a girl!
Please accept my apologies for just showing the red handbag from Banana Republic, there were so many great pieces, you will just have to wait and see for yourself, but I'm sure you'll love it too!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City
Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City
Every night is like a Friday night with our circle of friends. There are always tons of parties; most of them start at about 6 p.m. and run until about 8 or so.
I met up with friends at the Grand Hyatt towards the end of a writer's seminar. There was also a party for Obama and when we walked in, everyone looked at us and said it was a private party. We also heard security was so tight, guards were hired with specially trained dogs.
Someone in our group reminded us of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City at Cipriani on 42nd Street.
Just across the street from Grand Central was the big Casino Night Gala raising awareness and money for this worthy charity.
Guests were educated on this program truly benefiting children facing difficult situations.
I felt motivated and determined after hearing about how many obstacles someone as famous as Abraham Lincoln had to endure before finally becoming President, he probably was turned down for more jobs and opportunities than most people would realize. I'm guessing he was the original "Anthony Robbins" and did find a way to "Win Friends and Influence People" giving Dale Carnegie some material too.
Attending the Big Brothers Big Sisters Event at Cipriani made me realize that dreams do come true, not just in fairy tales..
My Weekend In Atlantic City!
My Weekend In Atlantic City!
For some strange reason, I felt a burning desire to go to Atlantic City last weekend. Just a few weeks ago, I was in Las Vegas? When I whispered to friends, "Guess where I went over Fourth of July Weekend..." the words were not so easy to say when I anticipated hearing in response, "DIDN'T YOU JUST GO TO LAS VEGAS?!"
Honestly, I didn't have an answer for them other than I needed to get out of New York for a few days and go to the city that is "ALWAYS TURNED ON.." Do you blame me? My traveling companion and I love this tag line very much indeed, now do you see why we had to go....
Sure, we are die-hard party animals in NY, but a change of scenery is good for the soul. Let me start off by telling you about Thursday evening at The Greyhound Bus Terminal at Port Authority and I will "borrow" this quote from someone in the party posse'..Greyhound, Atlantic City and Port Authority may not be for the "fainthearted."
Every person loitering around Times Square on a daily basis must have been waiting to go to Atlantic City on Thursday at 5:30, we were able to get on the 6:00 bus to Bally's.
What is such a great bargain and appeal about the casino buses is the price factor. Tickets roundtrip will cost $35.00 for the 2 1/2 hour trip out to AC, when arriving at the designated casino, bus riders will be given back $20 to gamble, eat, drink or spend any way they please.
I've taken the bus several times and have never rented a car, but some of the locals near Harrahs, Trump Marina, The Borgata and The Water Club aren't big fans of the "bus people" and we did not let on that in fact we were "bus people" too.
The Boardwalk is filled with all sorts of character and folks from every walk of life. If you could take Rockaway Beach, Coney Island and Venice Beach, this is what you'd have.
There are tons of free concerts too (we missed the Beach Boys, but my friend enjoyed seeing Three Dog Night perform). Steel Pulse is scheduled to perform this weekend at Trump Marina and Wendy and Lisa (Prince Fame) are scheduled to perform at the Showboat House Of Blues.
Going to the The Water Club and sitting by the tranquil pool for hours was one of my favorite moments over the weekend. This is luxury vacationing and one of the most beautiful hotels I've ever seen.
Also, the Red Door Spa at Harrah's was very relaxing and p
